Trying to avoid falling hopelessly behind, the boys are releasing a “double album” here on Episode 217 as they recap all the big happenings in WWE for the weeks of 1/29/18 and 2/5/18.

They begin with the week of 1/29/18 as they recap all the big news in the wake of the 2018 Royal Rumble. On Raw, we got word that at the Elimination Chamber event, thew women would make history yet again with the first ever Women’s Elimination Chamber match. On the men’s side of the equation, qualifying matches for the Elimination Chamber took place as Braun Strowman, Elias, and John Cena all advanced. The Miz defended his IC Title against Roman Reigns in a rematch from Raw 25 while Asuka took on Sasha Banks in an early candidate for Match of the Year.

Over on Smackdown Live, Daniel Bryan came up with a novel way to decide a #1 contender for AJ Style’s WWE Championship…by pitting Sami Zayn v Kevin Owens. How did the best friends react to this news? Rusev won a Fatal Four way to become the new #1 contender for the US Championship and Carmella tried to cash in her MITB Briefcase….sort of. The Mixed Match Challenge featured the odd, but oh so charming, pairing of Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman taking on Sami Zayn and Becky Lynch. On 205 Live, we met the new GM, Drake Maverick, who immediately told us about a big tournament to crown a new Cruiserweight Champion and we got two excellent first round matches at Cedric Alexander battled Gran Metalik and TJP took on the former UK Champion, Tyler Bate. NXT featured dark matches from Takeover: Philadelphia including a tremendous match between Roderick Strong and Tyler Bate to determine the new #1 contender for the UK Championship.

It is then on to the action from the week of 2/5/18. Raw featured more qualifying matches for Elimination Chamber as Roman Reigns and The Miz both advanced to Las Vegas. Bayley took her shot at trying to end Asuka’s unbeaten streak, Jason Jordan continued to be more of a hindrance than help to Seth Rollins as he cost Seth and Roman a golden chance at reclaiming the Raw Tag Titles, and in the Main Event, Elias overcame the odds and won a Triple Threat match against John Cena and Braun Strowman to earn the right to enter the Elimination Chamber last. We have all the details for you on Episode 217.

On Smackdown Live, Sami Zayn took on Kevin Owens in a #1 contenders match that, as expected, did not go as expected. Rusev took on Bobby Roode for the US Title. Was it Rusev Day as Rusev tried to become a three time US Champ? The Mixed Match Challenge saw the husband and wife team of Jimmy Uso and Naomi get Smackdown Live’s first win in the series as they beat the strange pairing of Goldust and Mandy Rose. On 205 Live, the Cruiserweight Championship tournament continued as Kalisto took on Lince Dorado and Hideo Itami battled Roderick Strong as Roddy made his main roster debut. Who advanced? We let you know on Episode 217. On NXT, Johnny Gargano agreed to put his NXT career on the line to get one more shot at Andrade “Cien” Almas and the NXT Title while saNIty battled Undisputed Era in a no holds barred 6 Man Tornado Tag Team Match.
