The Big Five Project returns and, for the first time ever, we embark on a side quest. When The Big Five Project began to hit its stride, we always said that if a non-Big Five PPV was historically significant enough, or just compelling enough, we would stray from the formula and cover it. In July of 1997, In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede took place…and stole the year as far as the best PPV of 1997. On that night, left was right, up was down, and Bret “Hitman” Hart and the Hart Foundation were hailed as heroes on Canadian soil, while “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was viewed as the villain. This was the exact opposite of what was going on in the USA. What ensued was one of the best multi-man tag team matches of all-time, before an absolutely raucous crowd. Also on this night, The Undertaker defended the WWF Championship against Vader, the reigning King of the Ring, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, resumed his rivalry with an evolving Mankind, and Taka Michinoku engaged in a light heavyweight epic with The Great Sasuke. It was a night filled with action and emotion and resulted in a universally loved PPV, a mere 4 months before everything, as we knew it, would change.
